ABOUT US

The Big Country Beekeepers Association (BCBA - awaiting 501(c)3 non-profit status) was established in February 2019, when founder Mr Ken Hobbs and his wife Debbie encountered a need for a beekeepers network in the Big Country. Initially, the meetings were held in coffee shops, or member's homes, and later a meeting room was utilized.

Today, the BCBA meetings take place at Ridgemont Baptist Church in Abilene, on the third Tuesday of each month. 6.30-8pm.

We are so grateful for Ken and Debbie, and their desire and perseverance to connect with other beekeepers, because here we are today!

The Big Country Beekeepers Association is a diverse community of beekeepers, including hobbyists, commercial and multigenerational beekeepers.

Our mission is to provide information, and educate the Big Country community, regarding the survival and protection of the honey bee,

We are passionate about bees, and want to encourage and promote beekeeping; to gain knowledge, exchange ideas, celebrate and commiserate, share techniques, skills and information, through monthly meetings, mentorship, workshops, and finally, special guest speakers.

Through community partnerships, we strive to reach the greater Big Country, with knowledge and training about safety and preservation of honey bees. A focus on bee removals in a kind, attentive way, will be promoted at all times.
